Too much red tape

With a current climate in schools that requires teachers to risk assess how to get on and off a bus safely, many of you will have chosen to forego the privilege of taking students on a trip. Those that still run the gauntlet may limit themselves to within these shores.

I am the Head of Biology at The Leys School, Cambridge. What you see below is a brief overview of the activities enjoyed during a school expedition to Africa that I have run annually for the past four years.

  • 2 day Makoro expedition in the Okavango Delta, including walking and Makoro safaris
  • Low level flight over the delta in 4-seater Cessners
  • Quad biking in the Makhadihadi salt pans followed by a fly-camp on the moonscape
  • An early morning game drive followed by a sunset river cruise safari at Chobe National Park
  • A visit to the ‘smoke that thunders’ - The Victoria Falls
  • White water rafting on the mighty Zambezi
  • Gorge swinging and bungee jumping over the Batoka Gorge (Victoria Falls Bridge)
  • Walking with lions at Antelope Park
  • Horseback safari
  • A relaxing tour end at Tchipise Hot Springs in South Africa
