Daily Itinerary (In Brief)*

  • DAY 1: Arrive in Vilanculos, Mozambique; introduction and orientation
  • DAY 2: PADI dive course - Confined Water 1 & 2
  • DAY 3: PADI dive course - Confined Water 3 & 4
  • DAY 4: PADI dive course - Confined Water 5; Examination
  • DAY 5: Open Water 1 & 2 (2 mile reef – Bazaruto Archipelago)
  • DAY 6: Open Water 3 & 4 (2 mile reef – Bazaruto Archipelago)
  • DAY 7: Certificate presentation; debrief, pack and prepare for the next leg of your expedition – the untouched Rio Guvuru

Accommodation

Your accommodation will be in a rustic but comfortable beach lodge. (Battery charging facilities are available but please note there are specified times for charging/using any electrical appliances such as iPods, digital cameras, laptops, etc, as power is from a wind generator and is primarily for lights)

All meals will be provided and will be prepared on an educational participatory basis

Week 2 – Freshwater Canoe Expedition (Rio Guvuru)

This is Africa undiscovered… Pathfinders will take you on a canoe expedition where few have been before. This will be a navigational challenge second to none with calm waters, exquisite scenery, campfires and star-studded African nights. This is the real Mozambique: off the map into uncharted territory.

Daily Itinerary (In Brief)*

  • DAY 8: Introduction & orientation; prepare for river and dhow expeditions
  • DAY 9: Pack supplies; deploy; river expedition begins
  • DAY 10: River canoeing; overnight on deserted island
  • DAY 11: River canoeing; cultural day – village interaction & traditional meal; overnight on deserted island
  • DAY 12: River canoeing; late afternoon paddle into rivers mouth; overnight in comfortable campsite; rest, shower & clean up
  • DAY 13: Rest day – explore the surroundings and prepare for next leg of the expedition – island hopping by traditional dhow

Week 3 – Island Dhow Sailing Expedition

Island after island, shimmering drops of white and green on a table of azure blue, Mozambique is with out doubt one of the last enchanted secrets of this modern world. It’s unspoiled, untouched and unbelievably beautiful. Pathfinders will take you on an expedition unparalleled by anything, and that will satiate your every desire for beauty and adventure intertwined as one.

Daily Itinerary (In Brief)*

  • DAY 14: Pack dhows; orientation & introduction to the crew and local guides; set sail for Ponta de Carlos on Bazaruto Island
  • DAY 15: Visit Ilha Santa Carolina and Paradise Island; explore these tropical islands with local guides
  • DAY 16: Visit Zenguelemo Point; play a soccer match against the local team from the island
  • DAY 17: Sail to the southern tip of Bazaruto Island; explore the waters around this marine sanctuary
  • DAY 18: Sail to 2-Mile Reef; dive and snorkel; onward to Ponta Dundo on Benguera Island
  • DAY 19: Explore the length of Benguera’s coastline
  • DAY 20: Marguruque Island, Back to base (Rustic & very basic Beach lodge)

Accommodation

You will be living and sleeping on a large wooden Afro-Arabian dhow (traditional sailing vessel of Africa’s east coast). Starry African nights will keep watch over you (weather permitting), whilst a gentle sea breeze should keep the mosquitoes away

Week 4 – Orphanage Soccer Program

Set in the rural tropics of Mozambique, the seaside town of Vilanculos. Touch the hearts of the local orphanage as you coach soccer and interact with the local children through the universal language of soccer.

  • Day 21: Orientation; briefing & language introduction
  • Day 22: Coaching, playing and interacting with the local orphanage
  • Day 23: Coaching, playing and interacting with the local orphanage
  • Day 24: Coaching, playing and interacting with the local children
  • Day 25: Coaching, playing and interacting with the local children; tournament preparation
  • Day 26: Local community tournament; prize giving & awards ceremony
  • Day 27: Bid your farewells; pack and drop off at the Airport
