Kenya Expedition Itinerary

  • Day 1: Arrive at Nairobi Airport where you will be met by an African Impact representative and taken to your campsite and group meeting area. Once the whole group is assembled our guides will present you with important orientation information and further details relating to your expedition.
  • Day 2: Journeying North onto the edge of the Great Rift Valley, stunning views will accompany you on the drive to pristine Lake Naivasha where you will camp on the lake's shores under massive Yellow wood acacia trees.
  • Day 3: Lake Naivasha is the perfect place to unwind and adapt to the leisurely pace of life enjoyed under the African sun. For the more adventurous - hippo cruises, game walks, horse riding, fishing and mountain biking in Hell's Gate National Park are just a few of the activities on offer.
  • Day 4: Winding your way deeper into the North, your adventure takes you further away from civilisation and towards the Samburu tribal lands of Kenya – a vast and rugged wilderness. Spending the night at the charming Bobong camp-site, set idyllically on a small rocky outcrop, the group will be spoilt with expansive views of the savannah below.
  • Day 5: An African sunrise over the distant Mount Kenya will provide a magnificent start to the day. The exploration will pass through the remote “cowboy town” of Maralal and head for Londongokwe – a rural village near which your Samburu guides will be waiting with the camels to begin the trek South East for Laikipia.
  • Days 6-9: The camel trek! The group will move towards Laikipia over the next 4 days. Camping under the stars and sharing stories with the Samburu guides around the nightly campfires. Be ready to play frisbee and soccer with rural village children as you pass through, and to do more walking alongside than riding of the great lurching beasts! The trek will take you into Laikipia, where total wildlife numbers are higher than any of Kenya’s protected areas except the Maasai Mara, and whose plains are home to Africa’s ‘Big 5’.
  • Day 10-15: The challenge begins! Your African Impact guides will organise you into work teams, which will also consist of professional builders and constructors to assist with more difficult and complicated tasks. Camping on site at the mission, you will get to know the community you are working alongside to make a lasting difference. Don't be surprised if you hear the distant roar of a lion or howl of a hyena at night from the neighbouring wildlife conservancies.
  • Days 16 – 18: Venture out on safari into the heart of the Kenyan wildlife ranch El Karama – Africa as you've always imagined it! Camp out in Big 5 areas and get ready for the second half of the building programme!
  • Days 19-21: Final stages of the building programme back at Segera.
  • Day 22: Depart from Segera Mission and head for Nairobi. Shop for curios and prepare to bid farewell to Kenya… Fly home this evening or the following morning.
