Dolphin Research Programme Itinerary







A typical day in the life of a Dolphin project volunteer

  • 06h15 Meet with clients (who were briefed the evening before) for the morning dolphin trip
  • 06h30 - 08h30 Join the researchers and clients on a ‘Dolphin Encountour’ – swim with dolphins, which involves assisting the clients and researchers whilst out on the water in the boat if needed. Research activities include: monitoring the dolphins, gathering data to identify individuals and observe how they interact with the other dolphins, camera and photographic work as well as recording the size of the school of dolphins and take co-ordinates to record their location for future reference
  • 08h30 - 09h30 Clean Dolphin Encountours equipment
  • 09h30 - 10h30 Assist with breakfast preparations
  • 10h30 - 13h00 Data capture; beach traffic monitoring or reef transect swims
  • 13h00 - 14h00 Break and lunch, socialise with other Dolphin Encountours and staff, and learn from their wealth of knowledge
  • 14h00 - 15h00 Assist with Camp activities or maintenance work
  • 15h00- 17h00 Break – take a surf lesson!
  • 17h00 - 18h00 Dolphin brief and slide show presented by Angie or Candice – Dolphin Encountours staff and researchers (you will not necessarily participate in this every day)
  • 18h30 – Dinner and possibly a trip to one of the local pubs or restaurants if you choose
