Hwange & Matobo National Parks Extra Information

Project Support:

Throughout your placement you will have the support and guidance of our experienced volunteer coordinators. They are part of our greater African Impact support team, which will provide you with competent 24-hour field support and assistance.

Project Accommodation:

For Hwange you will be based at the beautiful Miombo Safari Camp, which is situated on the border of Hwange National Park and a 10km drive from the entrance gate to Main Camp. The volunteer accommodations at Miombo have recently been renovated and you will find the rooms to be simple yet comfortable.

You will share a room with no more than three other volunteers of the same sex (unless otherwise requested). Boys’ dormitories One and Two share a common ablution block whilst the girls have their own en suite bathroom facilities. The volunteers have their own dining room and recreation room where Satellite TV, a humble library and various interactive games are available. The camp itself has tree and ground lodges, which are occupied by photographic tourists and all are set beneath a canopy of magnificent indigenous African trees. Use of the lodge swimming pool is extended to volunteers.

For Matobo 1 week option

During your time at the Matobo programme you will be staying in National Parks chalets (simple but comfortable rooms) in the heart of the National Park.

Project Meals:

Miombo is quite a busy safari camp and is a popular stopover for overland groups as well as the more up-market client. Meals are of a high standard and there is always plenty of food. Your home-from-home mother/cook, Gladys, will ensure that you never go hungry. Breakfast may consist of full English fare (cereals, eggs, bacon, sausage etc) or fresh fruit and yoghurt and scones. Lunch may be cold meats and salads, burgers or lasagne – usually something not too heavy as the daytime temperatures can be quite high and this diminishes your appetite. At night, you can usually expect a three-course meal consisting of soup, the main course with vegetables in season and almost always, a delicious dessert.

For Matobo a volunteer cook is also provided and they will take care of your 3 meals a day.
