Itinerary In full
Day 1: Arrive Windhoek
Arriving in Windhoek, the team will be met at the airport by our guides. We will immediately board the overland truck and drive to our guest house where our accommodation will be in rooms. Once we’ve settled in, we will have a thorough welcome and briefing.
Day 2 & 3: Sesriem
After breakfast we will drive to Sesriem, the closest town to Sossusvlei, home of the world's tallest dunes and the fascinating pans between them. By mid-morning Dead Vlei, the largest pan, has so many huddles of anoraks it looks like the forecourt at the Louvre. Other optional activities that you can enjoy while in Sesriem include a hike to Sesriem Canyon; ballooning and fixed-wing flights over the dunes. Our accommodation will be camping.
Day 4 - 6: Swakopmund
Our destination today is Swakopmund, where the boom of the surf on the notorious Skeleton Coast is an ever-present reminder of the icy Atlantic Ocean beyond. Just outside Swakopmund, a section of towering Barcan Dunes have been set aside for recreational purposes - sand boarding and skiing, quad-biking, camel rides and off-road driving. Swakopmund also offers a host of other attractions, including excursions by boat to see dolphins and seals, shore-based angling (some of the best in Africa), skin diving, surfing or just simply lazing on the beach. And, of course, the town is surrounded by the Namibian Naukluft Park, one of the most bewitching desert wilderness areas in Africa, for day trips. We will have plenty of time to enjoy the optional activities on offer. Our accommodation while in Swakopmund will be at Villa Wiese in rooms.
Day 7: Cheetah Park
This is a farm turned Cheetah conservation park after a group of wild cheetah attacked the farm’s livestock in 1994. Rather than shoot the animals (as the common practice among Namibian farmers) they decided to trap the animals, with the hope of relocating them to a game park. It turned out it was seemingly impossible to relocate the wild cheetah for various reasons. Releasing them back into the wild meant certain death for the cheetah. The owners then resolved to initiate a conservation programme for the cheetah on their farm. It has been successful thus far. Included in our itinerary is a cheetah tour. Our accommodation will be camping.
Day 8 & 9: Etosha
The journey today will take us to the Etosha National Park. Etosha, meaning "Great White Place", is dominated by a massive mineral pan. The pan is part of the Kalahari Basin, the floor of which was formed around 1000 million years ago. Temporary water in the Etosha Pan attracts thousands of wading birds including impressive flocks of flamingos. A San legend about the formation of the Etosha Pan tells of how a village was raided and everyone but the women slaughtered. One woman was so upset about the death of her family she cried until her tears formed a massive lake. When the lake dried up nothing was left apart from a huge white pan.
The game viewing in Etosha National Park is excellent and visitors can expect to see many buck species, elephant, giraffe, rhino and lions. If we are lucky we may see leopard and cheetah.
Day 10: Rundu
Tonight we will overnight in the riverside town of Rundu, before continuing our journey to the Okavango Delta.
Day 11 - 13: Seronga, Okavango delta
Seronga lies on the northern banks of the Okavango Delta where the river splits to form one of the world's only true inland deltas. We will overnight in Seronga and then enter the Delta the following morning; from here we will set up camp on islands in the delta and spend the next two days exploring its waterways by foot and mokoros (dugout canoes). The Okavango supports a unique ecosystem that boasts an abundance of animal and plant life. The days will be full as we track the many different species, as well as simply enjoy the remoteness and tranquility of the area.
Day 14: Caprivi
This morning we head for the Caprivi Strip where we will overnight at a Caprivi camp before proceeding to Victoria Falls.
Day 15 - 17: Livingstone/Victoria Falls
Victoria Falls is the adventure capital of Africa. There are a wide variety of optional activities available here, some of which include: White water rafting, Bungee Jumping, Mosi-Oa-Tunya National Park, Jet Boating, River Cruises, Horse Trails, Gorge Swing, Helicopter flights over the falls and many more others. Included in our itinerary is the Victoria Falls viewing and park fees. We will have plenty of time to enjoy other optional activities on offer.
If you select the Zambian side of Victoria Falls, Livingstone, our accommodation will be at the Zambezi Waterfront in Lux tents. Else our accommodation will be in rooms at a guest house in Victoria Falls town on the Zimbabwean side.
Day 18: Depart Livingstone/Victoria Falls
Today we say our final goodbyes and make our way to the airport well ahead of your flight departure time.
